We study phytoplankton and their interactions with other marine microbes

We are biological oceanographers who want to understand the impact of climate change on phytoplankton community structure and marine primary productivity.

Phytoplankton are responsible for about half the oxygen we breathe and they support the world's fisheries, so it is crucial to understand how they will be impacted by climate change.

Phytoplankton have both antagonistic and beneficial interactions with other marine microbes such as bacteria and protists. We want to understand how those interactions may shift and shape the evolution and ecology of phytoplankton.
